Cover letters should be short and sweet. You're submitting the manuscript, so your writing in the story will say all. But at the same time, you have to grab the editor's interest, otherwise, the actuaql manuscript will end up in the trash without ever being read.

This article had already been published in a newsletter. Normally, that makes it difficult to publish in any magazines, but trade magazines (especially for tight niche industries) will often accept related already published material. It was accepted by a graphics printing magazine in 2006.

Take special note how short the description is--just enough to grab the editor's attention.
